Our Story: A Spark Started by Oma

Meet the Lanteigne family! Today, we are proud to be second and third-generation family jewellers building a strong, community-focused business. But every great legacy has a beginning, and ours started with one determined woman.

Chasing a Vision & Changing the Status Quo

Our story began when Gerda Schinkel—our founder, Mom, and Oma—became disillusioned with the jewellery selection and services offered to her locally. She knew there was a deep need not being met by the existing businesses in the South-east, and it became her personal passion to change the status quo.

In October 1986, Gerda officially opened the doors to her new business: Gold-N-Memories Ltd. From the very first day, Gerda’s goal was simple yet ambitious: to give the people of the community she was raised in and loved the exact same quality, selection, and service they would normally have to travel to a large city center to find. You shouldn't have to leave the community you love to get the luxury you deserve.

Evolution, Nostalgia, and Returning to Our Roots

Through our 40 years in business, we aren't afraid to admit we’ve tried a few different things along the way—hello, Oma’s Attic gift shop!—but like any good compass, our hearts always pointed us back to our true roots, providing quality jewellery to our community.

As Gerda’s grandchildren joined the business, bringing a third generation of passion into the fold, we began to look at how we could freshen our look. We wanted a brand that reflected a crystal-clear message about who we are today, while still deeply honouring the original brand that brought us here. In February 2021, we officially unveiled our new name and logo:

Today, that original mission remains our driving passion. We focus entirely on providing quality, luxurious jewellery that makes YOU feel like a million bucks.
